Today’s a great day to blog, and the Bloganuary prompt is:

What do people incorrectly assume about you? That I dye my hair. My father’s side of the family was of Irish descent. Most of us were redheads, for example, one of my cousins had five boys and all were redheads.

As we age, red hair almost never turns gray. It fades from a ginger color into a lighter shade, and straight to silvery-white. Red hair does not get a more familiar grayish color even at a very old age.

I was teased most of my life about my red hair and many assumed I dyed it. Now that it is pure white, many assume I dye it. Nope, and I love every minute of it.

  5. I’m a sexagenarian – I was a blondie/strawberry blond/ mousey brown. And now I’ve got silver and white additions. I’ve never professoinally dyed my hair. I say I’ve earned each and ever differently-colored mane fiber I’ve got. 😀

    It’s fairly on the thin side so I let it grow… so I can play with it (like making braided crowns) – it’s down to my waist again (I once had it cut to a few inches above my shoulders). I don’t have bangs.

    We gotta be comfortable in our own skins. That’s the only way to enjoy who we are! 💕

    1. Wow! I wish my hair was that long. It seems to grow slower these days, except for my bangs. When my red color started to fade, I had it professionally done but not dyed red. I had highlights and lowlights put in it but when it started turning white, I let it go natural. Yes, we are what we are and should embrace it! ❤️

      1. I’ve some family that ‘Turned’ as early as 17. Others who box dye, some that go blad. We gotta do what works best for ‘us’. 🙂

      2. Mine started to fade when I was in my fifties and the major change was when I was in my sixties. It is whiter than my picture.

        I think my ‘teenage’ sons gave me my first ones 😉

  9. I think your white hair is amazingly good. I have grey hair and the back and sides are still quite a bit of dark brown hair. So it looks like I have had it streaked with the grey. I like it. I am a fellow Septuagenarian!

  10. My hair is smokey gray and silver and I like it. When I was young it was auburn. When first it started turning gray I dyed it because it was ugly. Now that there is just gray and silver I like it. Love the picture. You are beautiful.

  11. Beautiful photo of you, Eugenia! 👌 We share the same hair colour, and people think I dye mine, as well (I’m almost 67). And, my hair used to be red, too, but it was from a bottle (I didn’t like the natural mousey brown). It’s amusing that young women are now dyeing their hair grey and silver. We are the height of fashion these days! 😀

  13. You’re right. That’s what happened to my uncle: he had red hair and it faded to white. Another redheaded friend said she started coloring hers because otherwise it’d look like salt and paprika…

    Mom always thought I should have been a redhead….

      1. I had red highlights, and in my school pictures you could see it (of course, with the school pictures, it might have just faded). I got one of those “turn your picture into a cartoon!” apps and put in my seventh-grade picture, and I ended up looking like Archie…
