Your Weekly Prompt Roundup – BeDazzle – Posted September 13, 2022
“… the world can give you these glimpses as well as fairy tales can–the smell of rain, the dazzle of sun on white clapboard with the shadows of ferns and wash on the line, the wildness of a winter storm when in the house the flame of a candle doesn’t even flicker.”
― Frederick Buechner, Telling the Truth: The Gospel as Tragedy, Comedy, and Fairy Tale

Nevermind bedazzled,
I am frazzled!
It’s got nothing to do with light,
Or vision, or the ability to see,
…. more a case of a flight,
Beneath my feet!
To get things done before one can’t,
… or loses the will to live,
And shant,
… the body unable to give,
More!
When needed, and yet, still,
… l surprise myself,
At my determined will,
… acting like that demented elf,
At Christmas time,
Eager to please the older man in red,
Who himself not willing to fall behind,
… the magical line of cheer and gifted spread,
Shouts out ‘Hurry hurry hurry’,
“We simply cannot be late!”
“These orders needn’t cause worry,
…. “And l can’t afford to miss this one date!”
“The skies are long, and the night is short …
….. I have so much that needs to be travelled,
Over obstacles and what not, and we can’t abort,
“I need to be there fresh-faced and not baffled,
Bright-eyed and bushy-bearded, full of chimney sprint,
…. ready to jump into action and pounce upon the night,
Ever mindful to not even leave behind a single hoofprint,
That could cause some concern and others fright!”
Oh no,
l don’t wish to be like that elf frantically dashing to and fro,
Making sure that everything’s ready to go,
Yet, but, maybe and still,
Whether l like to say it or not – l am,
It’s like running backwards on a treadmill,
…. swimming against the waves of a broken dam!
Of course, l’ll get everything done; l always do,
…. but this is why l feel so frazzled,
Because of the very ‘ness’ of the hoodoo and voodoo,
Of everything thing, which also reminds me,
… of the devilry in that film Bedazzled!
